READING
We
have begun the novel Sing Down the Moon. It is a story about
a Navaho girl and her struggles as the White Men force the Native
Americans off their land. Remember that a free reading book report
is due on September 28th.
SCIENCE –
We
will be studying the classification systems of animals. Has your
child told you what the mnemonic “King Phillip our famous girl
singer” stands for yet? We will be researching an animal of the
student’s choice, and then be writing detailed reports.
MATH
We
have been working on place value in whole numbers and in using
decimals. We will continue this, and begin adding, subtracting and
multiplying numbers with decimal.
ELA
We
will be working hard on our writing skills via our science reports.
We will discuss topic sentences and details. We will be reading
information from various sources (internet, encyclopedias and
non-fiction books) to gather information to include in our reports.
Our reports will be typed in class using the laptops….so our
computer skills will be integrated into ELA and Science.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The
students did an incredible job learning about and preparing for the
Constitution Day Morning Program. They all can recite the Preamble,
and they know the 50 States as well. We will now focus on
Exploration of the Americas. We will learn about Christopher
Columbus, John Cabot, Balboa and many other Spanish, English and
French explorers.
